2015 Ferrari 488 GTB

The much anticipated evolution of the 458 Italia, the 2015 Ferrari 488 GTB, will, for the first time, bring turbocharging to a mid-engined V8 Ferrari fast car. The Ferrari 488 GTB will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2015. Pricing has not yet been disclosed ahead of Geneva, however the current 458 Italia starts at about $230,000.

The Ferrari 488 GTB’s new 3902 cc V8 turbo delivers immense power output, torque and response times. The engine produces 670 cv at 8,000 rpm along with 760 Nm of maximum torque in seventh gear and a response time to the accelerator of just 0.8 seconds at 2,000 rpm. The gearbox features Variable Torque Management which Ferrari says “unleashes the engine’s massive torque smoothly and powerfully right across the rev range, while specific gear ratios deliver incredibly progressive acceleration when the driver floors the throttle.” The Ferrari 488 GTB accelerates from 0-62mph in 3.0 seconds and to 124 mph in 8.3 seconds. The super car’s top speed will be 205mph-plus.

GTB stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, Italian for a grand tourer with coupe styling. The 2015 Ferrari 488 GTB features very sculptural flanks. Its large signature air intake scallop is divided into two sections by a splitter. Restyled headlights can be found at the front alongside enlarged air intakes and a new bonnet with large air extractors. The wide front spoiler features a double profile to improve the thermal efficiency of the radiators positioned at the sides. At the centre two pylons are combined with a deflector which directs air toward the flat underbody. The broad, low tail includes a blown spoiler which generates downforce without increasing drag. This works in conjunction with a ramp angle for the diffuser which features active flaps. The greater height required for the diffuser was achieved by repositioning the exhaust tailpipes. The circular LED tail lights have also been redesigned.

Due to its new design, the 2015 Ferrari 458 is more fuel efficient than the Ferrari 458. The combined fuel economy for the Ferrari 458 is rated at 24.8mpg. The previous generation Ferrari 458 was rated at 21. The 2015 Ferrari 458 also features a second-generation version of Ferrari’s Side Slip Angle Control system, which now interacts with the active dampers as well as the E-Diff and the F1-Trak traction control system to keep the car flatter which will improve the view out of the side windows.
